Carisa Wells<\/p><\/div>\n

Memoirs of a Girl Who Loves God<\/em>… This book, my debut novel and my first of many, is a symbol of so many things. It represents a dream come true, hard work, answered prayers, acknowledgment and change.<\/p>\n

My book is a Young Adult Fiction in the Faith & Spirituality genre. It\u2019s about a struggling fourteen-year-old named Krystal, who is cutting in order to cope with changes in her life. While the story is fiction, the main character is based on a real girl, someone I\u2019ve known forever and love dearly. She is my muse. A plethora of research, interviews and heart went into creating the vivid characters that cross Krystal\u2019s path in Memoirs of a Girl Who Loves God<\/em>.<\/p>\n

How did this all come to be? I don\u2019t really know. Something about growing up as an only child gives the imagination an extra spark! Extra sparks do wonders for reading.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been a reader my entire life. In junior high and high school, there would often be a novel on top of my stack of schoolbooks. It was always smaller than everything else in my arms and constantly slid around while I was walking through the halls. Most of the time, the book would have a Stephen King or Dean Koontz title. Because I was painfully shy, I kept just a few close friends and busied myself with reading in my spare time throughout the day. Reading is a lifesaver during moments of awkward silence.<\/p>\n

My first real memory of enjoying the writing process was in grade school. We\u2019d been learning about the science of weather, and our assignment was to write a weather report. My teacher said we could pick any location, so I chose Mars. My meteorologist was abducted by aliens midway through his report. I figured that was okay, since she didn\u2019t specify the location had to be on this planet. I got an A and note in red from the teacher telling me how creative I was! It felt good.<\/p>\n

\"CarisaYou might think I got this crazy writing bug about that time, and I have been slamming out stories ever since. But no, my story doesn\u2019t get quite that fascinating. Every now and then in school or in college, I\u2019d get a writing assignment that resonated with me. I\u2019d rock out something awesome and get an amazing grade that gave me the warm fuzzies.<\/p>\n

Writing a book has always been in the back of my mind, but I spent my whole life telling myself I couldn\u2019t do it. I\u2019m an expert at psyching myself out! Since then, I\u2019ve laid many negative voices to rest. I still have to silence those voices at times, but now I know better than to believe them. I\u2019ve been receiving wonderful and encouraging feedback from my beta readers and editors about my new book. Every time one of those voices tries to pipe up, I just go back and read one of their emails.<\/p>\n

Currently, I\u2019m writing the sequel to Memoirs of a Girl Who Loves God<\/em>. The original intention was for it to be a standalone novel, but God had other plans. I didn\u2019t realize there was a second book to Memoirs when I started writing, but after a few minor changes, \u201cVoila!\u201d I have a book two.<\/p>\n
