Sylvester Anderson<\/p><\/div>\n

I was born in 1965 in Chicago, Illinois.\u00a0 I wrote my first poem in the third grade. It was a Mother’s Day poem, which I still have to this day. I have been seriously writing poetry since I was in high school.<\/p>\n

With support from family and friends, I published my first collection of poetry Life through Celestial Lenses <\/i><\/a>in October of 2012. This was a dream come true, over 20 years in the making. In May of 2013, I published my second collection of poetry The Darkness, The Light, And the Glory<\/i><\/a>. I truly love writing poetry and creating with words. My goal is to heal and inspire through poetry.<\/p>\n

When I was growing up, I had a really active imagination, I\u2019m sure all kids do.\u00a0 I enjoyed doodling and attempting to create my own comic books. I was raised by my mom and grandma. I am the youngest of three (older brother and sister).<\/p>\n

My love for God and life has been the heaviest influence on my writing. I was very shy up until my teen years, so writing was a way of expressing what was going on inside and a way of expressing to my family how much they meant to me. I would always write some little note in birthday cards, Mother\u2019s Day cards, etc. I remember writing a poem for this girl I liked in high school. I never could get the courage up to give it to her, so I just pined away from a distance.<\/p>\n

Music influences my writing also. I love music. Some songs can touch you so deep, as if they were written just for you. \u00a0I like writing while listening to music; it helps stir up my creative spirit and keeps my toes tapping. I hope when people read my poetry they say to themselves \u201cHow did he know how I was feeling?\u201d and claim the poem as their own, like a good song.<\/p>\n

My poetic journey continues. Along the way, I have met and befriended some very talented, creative, and inspiring people, such as you.\u00a0 Although life has taken me through some twists and turns since my last book was published, poetry remains a constant part of my life.<\/p>\n

Reading the words of fellow poets has really inspired and ignited my passion for poetry even more. In the not too distant future, I plan to start work on my third collection of poetry Pressing Forward<\/i>. I believe that no matter what challenges or struggles arise in our lives, if we just have faith and keep pressing forward, we will make it through.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

My advice for other artists, no matter what creative field they\u2019re in, is to keep doing what you love. Do it in your own way, your own style. Find what inspires and motivates you and use it.<\/p>\n

Also, don\u2019t be afraid or ashamed to ask for help or direction. We all need help and a little boost from time to time. Most of\u00a0 all, support your fellow artists and, believe me, that same support will return to you ten-fold. There are so many wonderful and creative souls around the globe and I enjoy meeting and sharing the light with all of them.<\/p>\n
