Pierre Rausch

Hello, my name is Pierre Rausch and I am from Luxembourg. I am 32 years old, and I am the owner of Summernightbrand Record Sales Office. I started early with music, but I really got serious in high school and at university. I took some courses in guitar and vocals, but I essentially taught myself a lot of things on my own. This is how I made my first setps into the music business.

Soon, I began writing my own songs. I became interested in the upcoming casting shows that started in 2002. I always wanted to compete in one of them. I tried to learn covers from bands like Radiohead or Ben Harper, Muse and Placebo.

By 2006, I was ready to get started. Along with some part-time jobs, I made it with street music, essentially in Luxembourg, but also in Germany and the Netherlands.

I recorded my first albums with MP3 players and registered them with SACEM Luxembourg. I also had Tunecore as partners on the side. I did the artwork myself.

I managed to compete at castings in Germany and Luxembourg. For shows like DSDS, Tvtotal and a Luxembourg format, I got spotted on TV several times. Unfortunately, I messed up, because I was too nervous with stage fright.

After this, I decided to open my own business, Summernightbrand Record Sales Office (SRSO), to negotiate music licensing with SACEM Luxembourg and Tunecore. With SRSO, I established internet sites (like my own home page), social network sites, A&R or label sites, and sites that simply offer musicians opportunities to submit their music.

This is not the only work that we do at SRSO. As new albums get recorded, my tabs get translated into several languages and some lyrics get passed to poem sites on the internet. I have new recordings planned and, for right now, I still perform new live showings in the street.

I think that as we grow into an established business, we will set standards for how to better handle situations. The stakes are pretty high, considering artists must work together. The internet also sets standards for this, with Like buttons on Facebook and Following on Myspace and Twitter. Working together is important.

You can only learn so many chords from other artists. It’s not about copying another artist, but improving your own skills!
