Elizabeth Pope

Elizabeth Pope

I met singer, songwriter and recording artist Elizabeth Pope through GoGirls Music #ggchat (every Thursday evening 6 pm PT / 9 pm ET). Elizabeth has such a unique sound. I love the acoustic version of her song Step Away.

Elizabeth Pope describes her music as a roadmap: “I can write about different points in my life, I can write about experiences. That leads to songs that are emotional, upbeat and have a sensitive feel to them.” I love the idea that her music is a roadmap of insights into Elizabeth’s life.

Elizabeth writes the lyrics and music, plus records the vocals and guitar herself. She is currently collaborating on two songs with Nashville singer/songwriter Gary Kochan. One of those songs is in the final stages of review to be published.

She started playing guitar a very young age, “I developed a real love for it.” Elizabeth’s grandmother played an inspirational role, singing in a choir. Elizabeth sang in duos and college choirs too. She has taken guitar lessons and a vocal lesson. She hopes to continue with her vocal training this year. Plus she’s taken courses in songwriting and music theory to learn how to read and write music.

Elizabeth has a background in radio. She attended school to be a radio host. Elizabeth spent a few years working in radio and “that gave me the tools I needed to understand the other side of the music industry.”

Growing up, Elizabeth listened to all sorts of music, because her parents have diverse tastes in music. She remembers enjoying listening to Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan and John Denver. “All that music helped me shape how I wanted to sound. Even today, there are other artists, like John Mayer and Jewel, who have really influenced my music a lot.” I can hear the soul and country influences in her sound.

Elizabeth Pope singingElizabeth Pope is all over social media: Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and Pinterest, plus she has two blogs. “I pick a certain day to post when I’m working on a new song. I do most of it myself. Plus, I have GoGirls Music, so that has been a huge boost too.”

On ReverbNation, Elizabeth donates half those sales to Beat Making Lab. “It started at the University of North Carolina. They started producing these different sounds and different ways to work on all these music products. It’s a way for that music community to transform.”

You can hear Elizabeth play live in Sacramento, CA. She recently started working with an Arts and Repertoire (A&R) team from Los Angeles. “They’ve been helping to promote my music. I just launched a radio in the US, UK and Canada. They are also helping find other places to play.”

Elizabeth recommends researching and finding an A&R firm. “I think that’s key, to find the right team and the right type of people that will work with you to get your music career really going.”

In addition to the radio campaign, Elizabeth Pope is promoting her two new singles: Moving On and Fly Away. Lucky for us, Elizabeth is distributing those songs exclusively on Amused Now!

Elizabeth has also sent a music audition to The Voice and is getting ready to send off another audition. Our fingers are crossed. We wish Elizabeth the best!

Elizabeth Pope recommends, “surround yourself with the right people, like an A&R firm, just different people who have been in the music industry for ten or more years: people who can give you the right advice, people who can lead you to the right resources.”
